An illegal use of a cellphone while driving motor vehicle stop ends with a twenty-one year old female from Kinnelon being charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of cds in a motor vehicle. According to the reports released thus far, a Boontown Township police officer pulled over the Defendant just before 4:30 pm on Monday January 18, 2016 for an alleged motor vehicle violation. However, during the stop, the officer alleges that he smelled the overwhelming smell of marijuana emanating from inside the Defendant’s vehicle. It is unclear at this point in time whether a consent to search was granted or not but a subsequent search of the motor vehicle as conducted. During that search, a jar filled with marijuana as well as a smoking pipe was uncovered.
The Defendant was arrested and taken down to the Boonton Township Police Department and issued summons for failure to exhibit documents, use of a cellphone while driving, possession of CDS in a motor vehicle, as well as possession of marijuana under 50 grams and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was later released on her own recognize and is due to appear in the Boonton Township Municipal Court to answer the charges.
