A seventeen year old male has been arrested and formally charged with driving while intoxicated following a brief search of a wooded area in Mount Olive, New Jersey. According to the reports released at this point in time, the Mount Olive police department was dispatched to the scene of a motor vehicle accident following a 911 call by a bystander. The witness then apparently called back and told them that the driver of the vehicle, which had now caught fire, fled the scene. Fortunately, the Flanders Fire Department was able to quickly arrive on scene and extinguish the fire. After a brief investigation, the Mount Olive police department contacted there K9 unit in an effort to help located the driver. Following a brief search of the nearby woods, the Mount Olive police officers were able to locate the driver. The driver turned out to be a seventeen year old male from Mount Olive. According to the officers on scene, it was readily apparent that the Defendant was heavily intoxicated.
As a result of the Defendant’s condition, he was asked to perform the standardized field sobriety tests as well as the breathalyzer. Based on his performance, he was placed under arrest and charged with driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to maintain a lane, reckless driving and driving after hours on a provisional license. He was released to his parents and is due in the Mount Olive Municipal Court to answer the charges.
