A ninety (90) year old male from Clifton, New Jersey was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated in Mount Olive this weekend. According to the information that has been released at this time, a concerned citizen called the Mount Olive Police Department to report that an individual was driving the wrong way down a one way. When the police arrived on scene, they discovered the Defendant’s vehicle located inside a gas station which happened to be closed at the time. When the officer approached the Defendant’s vehicle, he quickly determined that he was impaired. Based on his observations, the Defendant was asked to preform several standardized field sobriety tests. After failing those tests, the Defendant was arrested and charged with DWI and reckless driving. He was released on a summons to appear in the Mt. Olive Municipal Court to answer the charges. Although driving while intoxicated, also known as driving under the influence, is considered a traffic offense, the ramifications if convicted can be worse then most criminal offenses.
