A month long investigation finally comes to an end this week in Morris County, New Jersey. The Madison Police Department has announced that they have arrested and charged a Chatham man with possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon and criminal mischief. According to all the information released thus far, it appears that the Defendant, a forty-eight (48) year old male, is alleged to have been vandalizing dozens of cars that were parked at STS Tire Center in Madison over the last month. During their investigation, the police were able to conclude that the damage had to have occurred between 6 a.m. and 7 a.m. It appears that based on this information, the police began conducting surveillance and were actually able to catch the Defendant in the act. On Wednesday morning, the Madison Police Officers watched as the Defendant damaged a windshield of a vehicle that was located at STS Tire Center.
When the Defendant was arrested, the police located a black pellet gun which they believe was used to damage several vehicles. The damage done over the last month they have estimated to be over $5,000. In all, fourteen (14) vehicles and three separate acts of criminal mischief were done to the STS building. The Defendant was brought to the Madison Police Department and processed. It seems that he was released on a summons and is most likely set to appear at Central Judicial Processing Court next week.
