Two Defendants, one from Hanover and the other from Paterson, were arrested earlier this week and charged with several home invasions. According to the information released at this point in time, it appears that the Defendants were being watched after several home invasions throughout the County were linked to them. During their surveillance detectives observed one of the Defendant’s emerge from behind a residence in Butler and hop into a Chevy Tahoe. The officers checked the back of the house and noticed a punched hole in one of the windows. Based on their observations, the officers took off after the Tahoe. The driver refused to stop until he crashed into the front yard of a home in Pequannock. The driver, a thirty year old male from Paterson was arrested on the scene. The passenger, a thirty-two year old male from Hanover was able to flee the scene, however, he was quickly apprehended after a brief foot chase. Once the officers conducted a search of the Tahoe they discovered several items that linked the Defendants to several burglaries throughout Morris County. In all, detectives believe that the Defendants are responsible for residential burglaries in Butler, Hanover, Pequannock, Riverdale and Kenilworth stemming back to the beginning of January.
The driver of the Tahoe was charged with conspiracy to commit burglary, conspiracy to commit theft and eluding for the incident in Butler. In addition, he was charged with receiving stolen property as a result of what was discovered inside the Tahoe. Down the road he may also be charged with the other burglaries if they can somehow link him to those incidents. The passenger was charged with burglary, theft, receiving stolen property and resisting arrest as well. Both Defendants were taken tot he Morris County Jail. However, based on the new bail reforms both Defendants were later released following their detention hearing.
