Drunk Driver Strikes Cop Car in Hanover, New Jersey
It appears that a drunk driver struck a Hanover police officer’s vehicle early yesterday morning on Route 287 in Morris County. A lot of the facts have not been released yet, however, it appears that the Hanover police officer was actually assisting a New Jersey State Trooper on a separate manner when this incident occurred. It appears that the officer had just arrived on scene and wasn’t even able to exit his vehicle when he was struck from behind by the Defendant. There was extensive damage done to both the Police and the Defendant’s vehicle. It is alleged that the driver must have been operating an extreme high rate of speed when the incident occurred. As a result, the Hanover officer was taken to hospital to be treated for his injuries. He had been reporting of neck, elbow and shoulder pain.
The driver of the vehicle, who’s name had not been released yet, has been arrested and charged with among other things DUI and most likely assault by auto. Although the DUI is traffic in nature, the assault by auto charge can be either a second, third or fourth degree felony depending on the injuries suffered. In other words, the Defendant may be looking at an extended period behind bars.
