A Morristown resident has been arrested and charged with a DWI following a motor vehicle accident that occurred just before 4pm on what is known as one of the most popular evenings for DWI related arrests. The Defendant, a twenty-four (24) year old male from Morristown, New Jersey is alleged to have struck a marked police vehicle on West Park Place in the late afternoon hours of Wednesday. It is unclear at this point in time how severe the accident was or whether or not the Defendant was injured as a result of it. However, it is clear that the officer sustained minor injuries and was later evaluated by the doctors at Morristown Medical Center.
The Defendant was arrested and formally charged with driving while intoxicated and careless driving. It does not appear at this point in time that the Defendant was charged with assault by auto as a result of the accident. Therefore, the Defendant is only facing traffic offenses as opposed to felony criminal offenses. With that being said, if the Defendant is convicted of the DWI, even if it is the Defendant’s first offense, he would be facing a potential year loss of license and fines close to $1,000. Since this offense occurred in Morristown, New Jersey the charges will be heard in the Morristown Municipal Court. For more information on DUI/DWI offenses in Morristown NJ please click here.
