Dover Juvenile Charged with Robbery & Carjacking
Following a lengthy investigation, the Dover Police have finally arrested a seventeen year old female and charged her with among other things, armed robbery. The juvenile is alleged to have approached a twenty-two year old male, pointed a gun at him and demanded that he turn over the keys to his car. Fearing the worst, the man handed the female his keys and she fled the scene in his car. Prior to the armed robbery, it is alleged that she created a diversion by calling the police and telling them that she was the victim of an attempted to robbery at Dover High School. However, when the detectives investigated the incident, they quickly learned that there was no attempted robbery taking place at the High School.
It is unclear at this point in time how the police cracked the case, but they determined that the juvenile who committed the armed robbery at the train station was the same person who called in the fictitious robbery at the High School. The juvenile was arrested and charged with armed robbery, carjacking and falsifying police reports. Since she is a juvenile she was taken to the Morris County Detention Center. Due to the nature of the offense and the age of the juvenile, the Morris County Prosecutor Office may seek to waive the juvenile up to the adult criminal justice system and prosecute her as an adult. If that is the case, the defendant’s exposure goes from max of four years in Jamesburg to possible thirty years in a New Jersey State Prison.
